Ian Calderon represents the 57th Assembly District in the California State Assembly and serves as the Assembly's Majority Leader. He lives in the City of Whittier with his wife, Elise, and daughter, Charlie.
Following the tragic on-duty death of Officer Keith Boyer of the Whittier Police Department, I worked with our the cities of the 57th Assembly District, our police, and our prosecutors to craft a bill that more carefully screens inmates for supervised release and makes our communities safer. With our community behind us, we were able to achieve passage of A.B. 1408 in both the Assembly and Senate.
Oftentimes, the most impactful legislation is the most commonsense. I was proud to introduce A.B. 1127, which requires public venues to offer at least one diaper changing station accessible to the public – regardless of gender. As a result, fathers will now find it easier to change their infant children in a safe, hygienic manner without resorting to the floor. A.B. 1127 was passed by both the Assembly and Senate and was signed into law by the Governor in October 2017.
